In February 2004, a number of past participants in American Meteorological Society Education courses gathered at the Lamont-Dohety Earth Observatory of Columbia University to share peer-training experiences based on the DataStreme programs, and also hear about cutting-edge research from LDEO scientsts. We heard from Dr. Steve Goldstein, who discussed investigations of the Mid-Ocean Ridge system in the Arctic Ocean, and Dr. Alexey Kaplan, who provided a historical perspective of climate change research. We also had the opportunity to visit the LDEO Deep Sea Sample Repository and the IODP East Coast Drilling Core repository. Feedback from participants indicated this was a valuable program and effective way to follow up from the AMS Education Programs.

The second "AMS@LDEO" meeting was held on December 11. We had the opportunity to hear directly from a research scientists, Margie Turrin, discussing investigations and discoveries about the Hudson River.  We again could share advice and experiences about using AMS Educational Program materials with colleagues and students.

The two programs offered during  2004 served as the basis for a poster display in the 14th AMS Symposium on Education. Click here for the compact abstract and here for the extended abstract.
